With barbecue and door prizes offered, Wol-Med recently hosted blood drives at the company's Denton and Duncanville offices to benefit the American Red Cross.

Forty donations were received, said Chris Helms, director of operations.

"Each donation saves three lives," Helms said. "That means we affected 120 lives this time around."

On April 16, 2010 - Wol+Med hosted a party and helped the American Red Cross get needed blood donations.

"People were having fun in a situation where many people would typically be nervous about needles and giving blood," said Chris Helms, director of operations for Wol+Med.

Company employees made fajitas, provided juice and gave away door prizes. Thirty-one people donated blood during the event, which was held at Wol+Med, 2436 S. Interstate 35E.

"The Red Cross nurses said that in similar blood drives they usually get an average of 15 donors, so Wol+Med had 100 percent more donors than average," Helms said. For more information about Wol+Med, call 940-484-7000.

Employees donate to North Texas Food Bank

Recent North Texas Food Bank donations by employees of Wol-Med CARF Pain Management Clinic helped raise money to feed the needy. During an online food drive for the food bank in November and December, 50 employees made donations. The online aspect of the drive allows more donated money to be used for meals and less for administrative costs for the food bank.

"It lowers the [food bank's] operating costs," said Chris Helms, company director of operations. "And it tells you how many meals you provide. It's amazing. You never know how much food you can donate with just $100."

Anyone can donate to the food bank at the company's Web site at www.wolmed.com .

"And we encourage it, actually," Helms said. "We try to promote that. At first it was going to be a holiday thing, but we decided it was important to keep it there."

For the third consecutive time, Wol-Med, a work and auto injury clinic, received its three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities for its work conditioning, work hardening and chronic pain management programs.

The company placed itself through a rigorous peer review process and demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an onsite visit that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measureable and accountable, according to a Monday news release.

Founded in 1966, the accrediting body establishes patient-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services. Wol-Med, which has offices in Denton and Dallas, has served the area for more than 20 years.
